I recently had a mini-break in the Lake District and while I was there I went to Keswick and went to the Derwent Pencil Museum. Keswick is the home of the first pencil, and the museum tracks the history of graphite and the pencil, includes the story of the real “Q” and his secret WW2 pencils and lots of cool pencils including one of the largest colour pencils in the world measuring almost 8 metres; the Queen’s diamond Jubilee pencil; miniature pencil sculptures; and an awesome gift shop filled with pencils.
There were so many choices in the gift shop for pencils and/or colouring pencils. As I’m not much of an artist I decided to start simple and went for the Derwent “Artists” colouring pencils (12 pack) which are blendable colouring pencils.
There are 120 colours in the range and their waxy texture makes them ideal for layering and blending so you can create as many of your own colours as you wish! They have a nice fat colour strip which is ideal if you want to create really expressive drawings but if you need something for finer, more detailed work, look no further than the Derwent Studio range.
