The Freedom of the Presses is the Quarterly Limited Edition of Field Notes for the Fall of 2020 featuring the work of different independent letterpress shops across America. I am currently using Pack A as my everyday carry pocket notebooks.
This pack includes one of two cover designs by Rick Griffith of Denver, Colorado. One of two by Erin Beckloff of Springboro, Ohio. One cover by Starshaped Press of Chicago, Illinois.
Rick Griffith
The cover is designed and proofed by Rick Griffith with wood type & cut laser cut plates on a Vandercook 219AB (ca. 1951), and printed by his friends at Genghis Kern on a Heidelberg KSBA Cylinder Press (ca. 1970).
Erin Beckloff
Cover designed and proofed by Erin Beckloff using Moore Wood Type ornaments, would type and vintage illustrations on a Vandercook 4 (ca. 1951) and printed by her friends at Thomas Printers on a Heidelberg Windmill (ca. 1951).
Starshaped Press
Cover designed and proofed by Starshaped Press using vintage metal type and ornaments then converted to a magnesium plate (to preserve the integrity of the vintage type) and printed on a chandler and price platen press (ca. 1923).
