Elemental Paper Notebooks
Elemental Notebooks was founded by Greg and Laurie Krumm in 2017. It is the result of a convergence of passions for the Elements of the Periodic Table, Notebooks, and Fountain Pens. We set out to make a series of notebooks that celebrate the building blocks of life, while still being one of the best writing experiences available.
We have now received the four Elemental Notebooks that we backed (together with the Unobtainium Pocket Notebooks). Through this Kickstarter Campaign, they raised enough funds to “unlock” the first 4 notebooks: Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Nitrogen.
The elements emission spectrum is printed on the edge of the paper, its Bohr model and a periodic table inside the front cover, and the elements square foil stamped on the spine of the notebook.
Hydrogen
The Hydrogen notebook has a light-grey cover, which contrasts beautifully with the black printed paper edges and the black foil stamping on the spine. This is a truly beautiful and high-quality notebook. I was really pleased with what arrived at my door (as there is always a risk with Kickstarter Campaigns). I really love the details of these notebooks such as spine detail and the periodic table on the inside of the notebook.
Carbon
The Carbon Notebook is described as a fully blacked-out design, aside from its silver bookmark. We chose black since almost every allotrope of Carbon is visibly black, not to mention the fact that the all-black combination looks amazing. However, if I am honest the black notebook was probably my least favourite – although the emission spectrum did stand out on this version.
Oxygen
The Oxygen notebook has a brilliant lake/azure blue cover and bookmark, silver foil stamping on the spine, and a white bookmark. Blue was chosen because by mass, 88.88% of water is Oxygen by mass and Liquid Oxygen is light blue in color. The bright blue is a real stand out colour and I love the vivid colour of this notebook.
Nitrogen
The Nitrogen notebook is an homage to the great pine forests of Oregon. The Nitrogen cycle plays a vital role in the nutrition and growth of every plant on earth. This was the notebook that I was holding out for during the campaign… and it didn’t disappoint.
