Views from Japan is a brand new guidebook encouraging you to explore Japan like a local. This caught my eye because of the beautiful photography and because I am always planning for a trip to Japan. The book is written by Ben Richards who is a travel and architectural photographer based in Tokyo. In Views from Japan, he shares what you need to know to explore Japan in a more meaningful ways and have an authentic experience.
The book has more than 300 original colour photographs and includes highlights from over 20 prefectures and over 250 individual locations, from the northern mountains of Hokkaido to the tropical islands of Okinawa, the hidden temples of Kyoto to the unique architecture of Tokyo.
It really is a beautiful book, with some stunning pictures. There is a lot of architecture, but given that Ben is an architectural photographer – this makes sense. It is a curated selection of locations based on his taste, experience and interests in culture, architecture and lesser-known destinations. You’d need a lot of time to visit all these locations, but it provides some great inspiration for your next trip to Japan.
