I get a lot of stationery boxes and other subscription boxes. This, in turn, means that I end up with lots of pencils. I don’t use a lot of pencils in my working life so one pencil is probably going to last until I lose it.
By contrast – pens I can run down in a matter of weeks.
In my latest Nero’s Notes Nero’s Subscription I received two beautiful pencils:
- Limited Edition Blackwing – Volume 42
- The Musgrave Test Scoring.
It got me thinking I really need to try using pencils more!
Blackwing 42
In 1947, the American baseball player Jackie Robinson was called up to the Major Leagues by the Brooklyn Dodgers. This broke the colour barrier and provided much-needed momentum and support to the desegregation movement that extended well beyond baseball.
The Palomino Blackwing Volume 42 pencil is a tribute to Jackie Robinson and all those who pursue their passions regardless of the obstacles in their way.
Volume 42 features a balanced graphite, for smooth writing and drawing. It has the white wood barrel with blue imprint and a road grey ferrule, along with the iconic red 42 and with a blue eraser.

Musgrave Test Scoring
Made in the USA, this pencil is great for everyday use, it is soft and dark and its mark will be seen! Its electro graphite core is specially designed to be picked up by test scanners. Also great for crosswords. So I am looking forward to trying this pencil out.
